Friday night, September 26, 2008, Barack Obama and John McCain had their first Presidential debate.
Earlier in the week it wasn’t even known if John McCain would be attending the debate because he supposedly “suspended” his campaign because of the financial crisis and said he wouldn’t attend the debate if a bailout deal wasn’t worked out. McCain knew it would be campaign suicide if he didn’t show up to the debate and of course he was indeed there.
The debate really didn’t have any knockout punch moments. McCain and Obama pretty much said the same things they’ve been saying on the campaign trail. McCain even brought up the same McLame jokes he’s repeated hundreds of times, like the earmarks for researching the DNA of bears – he didn’t know if that was criminal or paternal. McCain also said some weird thing about looking into Putin’s eyes and seeing the letters K-G-B. What the heck is that all about?
Barack Obama did appear to be the winner of last night’s debate, but he kept saying on numerous occasions that ‘McCain was right’ on certain points. Now, I’m not a professional debater, but do you really want to keep repeating that your opponent is right on certain points?
