Senator Richard Shelby came out of the bailout meeting at the White House and held up a 5 page letter and said “I have 5 pages of the leading economists in America, that wrote to me and the leadership saying ‘the Paulson plan is a BAD PLAN! It will not solve problems, it will create problems. We are rushing to judgement. We do have financial stress on the market, but this is not the best way. We should look at alternatives.’ This is not me, this is economists at Harvard, Yale, MIT, University of Chicago, our leading Universities…5 pages…It ought to tell you something.”
